A few days ago, I went to Ganso Hakata Mentaiju, which is so famous Mentai restaurant in Fukuoka.
This restaurant is so famous all over Japan because a lot of celebrities came here!
If you have never had Mentai, I highly recommend that you come here and have Mentai!
What is “Ganso Hakata Mentaiju”?
Hakata, the central city of Fukuoka, is very famous for its mentaiko (cod roe) and has numerous Mentai specialty restaurants.
Ganso Hakata Mentaiju is the most famous Mentai restaurant in this area.
This restaurant may have a long line of customers, sometimes waiting all day to get what they want.
Ganso Hakata Mentaiju has two branches, one in Nishinakasu and the other in Hakata.
However, Hakata’s branch specializes in souvenirs and boxed lunches and does not allow in-store dining.
Signature dish
Ganso Hakata Mentaiju
Signature dish is “Ganso Hakata Mentaiju”.
For Mentaiju, you can choose the amount of rice (small 150g, medium 250g, or large 300g) and the spiciness of the sauce (basic, small spicy, medium spicy, or large spicy).
I chose medium, basic!
At first, I thought it might be too little, but it was more substantial than I expected and I felt it a little spicy.
So, I would recommend this ordering way (medium, basic) for first-time eaters!
This Hakata Mentaiju can be enjoyed for 1680 yen.
Nishinakasu ryotei pudding
This pudding is also a popular menu!
The pudding is soft enough to drink, and the “double caramel sauce” of caramel and caramel jelly is the perfect palate freshener.
This pudding is 680 yen!
How to eat some dishes
Waiting Times
I went there on March 11th, got in line at 5pm and was able to get in the store around 6:30pm.
I mean, I had to wait an hour and a half!
March is travel season, so it took a very long time!
Reservations
Reservations are not accepted for breakfast or lunch.
Reservations are not accepted between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, and only by phone after 5:00 pm.
However, when I tried to call to make a reservation on that day, I could not get through, so I would suggest you book about a month in advance.

This restaurant has many tourists from overseas, and the restaurant and menu were said in English, so you can ask if they speak English at the beginning of the phone call!
Access

Please use Tenjin Station by train.
If accessing from Tenjin Station, it will take about 4 minutes on foot.
Nakasu Kawabata Station is also available for access by train.
The location is quite accessible.
Conclusion
Finally, this restaurant is Fukuoka’s best mentaiko specialty restaurant.
I certainly recommend this restaurant when you come to Fukuoka!
